Mel Powsner, a storyteller from Long Island, New York, received her BFA in Photography & Video from Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, MA, in 2017, and has lived in Massachusetts ever since. Her photographs have been in the Montserrat gallery shows “Artrageous30,” "Portfolio Narratives,” “Juried Open House,” as well as “Journeys” and “Benjamin Loves Santa” at the Visionspace Gallery in Lynn, MA. Her documentaries, "Dignity & Connection," "Deja Vu- The History of Montserrat College of Art," and “What Gets us Through,” have been shown at the Cabot Cinema and the Larcom Theatre in Beverly, MA. Mel completed her photography internship in the College Relations department at Montserrat under the supervision of Jo Broderick, Dean of College Relations. She was the co-founder of MASh (Media Animation Showcase), a time-based media showcase featuring the works of students and alumni from North Shore colleges, for which she received the Studio XL Merit Award in 2016. For her senior thesis, she documented stories of the homeless in audio and video in her documentary "Dignity & Connection," for which she received the Silver Award by the Spotlight Documentary Film Awards. Mel’s interests lie in documenting people’s stories through photography and video media.
