About freelancer
I am a recent graduate of Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies and English and very interested in the Copywriter-Content Writer position. I am really interested in writing and I feel like this opportunity provides an excellent chance to gain experience in a competitive field. I believe my experiences have provided me with the necessary skills and abilities to succeed in this position.
During my fellowship at Massachusetts Advocates for Children (MAC), I wrote a series of blog posts on MAC’s website as a final project. In conjunction with MAC’s mission, I wrote about the academic and occupational rewards and challenges experienced by students with disabilities to help said students advocate for themselves in school, in college, and at work. Here is a link to my blog post series titled “Ask a Self-Advocate” in which I used the pseudonym, JOSO: https://massadvocates.org/category/ask-a-self-advocate-series/. In order to write these blogs, I had to use the correct terminology associated with special education, such as Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), and make the information easy for transition-aged high school students and their parents to understand. This experience would serve me well in editing manuscripts to improve clarity and content accessibility for the target audience. Additionally, I had to balance this internship with my college classes, homework, and clubs, making sure to complete all my college and fellowship assignments on time. I believe my time-management skills would be useful in properly managing my schedule while working remotely. I am confident that my strong editing abilities combined with my interest in the publishing industry would prove useful in this position at Wono.
Furthermore, while studying at Tufts, I wrote and edited many essays in my English and Africana Studies courses. One of my favorite classes was called Family Histories and North American Culture in which I wrote a thirty-page research paper about my great-grandfather, who immigrated from Kingston, Jamaica to Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America in the early twentieth century. I had to self-edit this paper and use the 17th edition Chicago Manual of Style to cite my sources. My hard work paid off as I earned an A on the paper and an A in the class. This paper is only one example of the numerous times I had to proofread my own work and correct grammar mistakes and typos. I think that my attention to detail would enable me to be a strong candidate for the job at Wono.
I feel as though I can offer a significant skill set and drive to the Copywriter-Content Writer position at Wono. I thank you for your consideration and look forward to discussing my qualifications further.
