Academic Writer and Researcher Sydney Sullivan, Writing & Content
My name is Sydney Sullivan and I have a great interest in your recently advertised position. I graduated with my Masters in English Literature from the University of Arizona and have been accepted into a fully-funded PhD in Education program at the University of California, Davis where I will be attending and teaching classes for the next five years. My research in Education concerns first-year college students and how to better incorporate well-being and mental health practices into writing curricula. I am interested in how digital rhetoric—such as how students communicate through social media—affect their ability to connect with people on an interpersonal level, and how we may develop conversations in the classroom that further interest students in the rhetorics of their digital lives. In two years of teaching, and six years of being a student, I have found college to be a place where many students come not only to become educated, but to learn more about themselves. I am interested in adding to conversations on social justice and digital rhetorics by helping students cultivate and participate in conversations about digital rhetoric’s place in their lives through pedagogy centered around well-being. I understand well-being as a state of mind in which we are aware, engaged, and seeking meaning in the world around us. Yet stereotypical ideas of technology seem to represent the opposite of these well-being practices: students are “disengaged” when they are on their phones, or “unaware” of others around them. My question is not, how do we get rid of technology, but rather, how can technology inculcate well-being in college spaces? I found this position extremely fitting given my background in writing and literacy. A job with a focus such as this gives me confidence that I will be in a position I am passionate about, which I hope will allow me to be a productive employee.

Good afternoon, folks. The name's Samir, and I'm here to add some flavor to your words. I have a whole cupboard full of spices, gathered from far and wide, that are guaranteed to jazz up even the dullest of sentences. Why do it? I know how frustrating corporate communication can be. I've had to trudge through my fair share of lifeless emails, each sentence more vacuous than the last. I know how it feels to want to tear your eyes out of their sockets after seeing the same clichéd lingo over and over again. Well, it doesn't have to be this way. I'm here to help ensure it isn't. So, what say you? Yay or nay? Yay-ers, shoot me an email; I'll respond back with that same message, but coated in my own special seasoning. I hope you enjoy the taste. Students need not fear, either. I'm quite hip to the research paper game, having read (and authored) countless pieces of academic journalism during my time as an Economics major. Once I recover the files from my previous laptop, which has decided to abandon me after years of loyal service, I will attach some examples of my scholastic output. As for those of you outside of the corporate world, you're in even bigger luck. Not to toot my own horn, but I'm somewhat of a storyteller of sorts; at least, I enjoy writing them. In addition to stories, I write poetry and music as well. I'll attach one of my first works of fiction so you can get a sense of how exactly I write, and whether or not it's something you'd be interested in more of. (serious inquiries welcome...silly inquiries preferred) Hope to hear from at least one of you!

My biggest passion in life is writing. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in History and was required to master my ability to write highly structured, creative, and well-researched essays. I had to write many research essays and even a short story based on historical documents. After graduating I worked as a private tutor, a kindergarten teacher, and a tutor for a tutoring center. As a tutor for the tutoring center I often helped children and adolescents with their writing skills. I encouraged them to become better writers by teaching them how to edit and write grammatically-correct sentences that have good flow. I also taught students how to write vivid, detailed, and imaginative stories. I regularly read and write outside of work because I am determined to continually improve my ability to write. As an avid reader of current events and history, it is my dream to be able to research in my career and directly apply my writing skills. EDUCATION ● Bachelor of Arts in History WORK EXPERIENCE ● Experience as a private tutor ● Experience as a substitute teacher in Doral Academy Preparatory School ● Experience as a kindergarten teacher in Championship Academy ● Experience working as an FSA writing tutor in the Tutoring Center ADDITIONAL SKILLS ● Adept at using Microsoft software ● Bilingual: speaks and writes both English and Spanish fluently ● Can type quickly
