Creative Writer Rakiye Benjamin, Writing & Content
My name is Rakiye Benjamin, and I am ready and willing to take on the next major opportunity I am presented with. As a Lehman College graduate, I completed my program with departmental honors in English as well as with a Film and Television Studies minor. Through English courses, I have strengthened both my written communication and research skills and grown as a writer, finding my voice, and developing my own style. My film courses taught me not only how to edit footage, work with camera and lighting, and work with others to bring my concepts to life, I also learned the value of time in the industry and the importance of meeting deadlines. During my undergraduate career, I was also a vital member of the college magazine Obscura. My main duties involved working directly with the presidents to select, proofread, and edit creative pieces for publication and organizing major events, which typically involved brainstorming sessions during our weekly meetings. I’ve also had several other opportunities to showcase my skills in the real world, working as a writing intern with the Lionheart Talent Management Group, where I contributed to writing and editing for company projects and researching material. Most recently, I worked as a fashion copywriter for an up-and-coming online retailer. My determination has rewarded me with several honorary opportunities, including acceptance into Lehman’s own English Honors Program, for which I completed my senior thesis (a draft of an original script) with the grade of High Honors, and most recently, induction into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Society.
