This recruitment will be used to fill six full-time Temporary Biological Science Research Technician 3 positions for the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Oregon State University (OSU). The incumbent(s) will be a member of a crew establishing a permanent plot network in the mixed conifer forests of southwestern Oregon in order to evaluate the impact of the invasive forest pathogen Phytophthora ramorum, the cause of sudden oak death, on the forest ecosystems of southwestern Oregon. The incumbent(s) will establish plots, survey plant communities, and collect samples throughout the tanoak ecosystems of Oregon and potentially northern California. The incumbent(s) will be stationed in Brookings Oregon and conduct field work and data collection in the surrounding area under the direction of a crew leader. Housing is provided as a condition of employment. Position Duties 95% Establishing permanent plot network including surveys (plant community data, forest inventory data) and sample collection. 5% Data entry. Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in (specific area of biological science) and two years of experience related to the area of assignment at a Biological Science Research Technician 2 level. Three additional years of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Science Research Technician 2 level may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree. Additional Required Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or a related field and two years of experience related to the area of assignment at a Biological Science Research Technician 2 level. Three additional years of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Science Research Technician 2 level may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree. Experience collecting field data at remote study sites Experience with measuring and collecting plant community data Experience measuring collecting forest inventory data Experience navigating in forest ecosystem at remote sites Experience navigating with a GPS and/or compass Ability to discern disease symptoms This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
