Requisition Id 6763 Purpose The Department of Energy Manufacturing Demonstration Facility and the Manufacturing Systems Research Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) are seeking research staff to help with the development of user-facing graphical software for additive manufacturing. Slicing software is one example of user-facing software required for the functioning of additive manufacturing processes. Combined with feedback and controls from the additive manufacturing systems, a broad software package to address these challenges must be developed. Such a software package requires expertise in multiple computer science disciplines with the goal of developing innovative features not previously seen to advance additive manufacturing. Major Duties/Responsibilities The selected candidate will: Assist in the design, development, and implementation of new algorithms related to manufacturing processes that include: Large scale polymer extrusion systems Electron beam powder bed Laser powder bed Directed energy depositions Large scale metal systems Machine tool systems Collaborate with a team of engineers including mechanical, material, electrical, computer scientists from industry, academia, and other national labs on the development of these systemsHelp in the development of new and advanced sensory and process controls for additive and subtractive manufacturing Qualifications Required The position requires: A Bachelor’s in Computer Science is required.
