St. Mary of the Nativity Parish in Scituate is currently looking for a part-time Business Manager to join their team. This position is between 24-30 hours a week. The Business Manager will assist the Pastor in fulfilling his responsibility for the administration of the parish. Some of the areas in which the Parish Business Manager may assist the Pastor in parish administration and management are financial, personnel, and resource development. The ideal candidate will be a practicing Catholic who understands, supports, and lives the Mission of the Catholic Faith. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT In consultation with the Pastor and Finance Council, develop, implement, and administer local financial policies and procedures in accordance with the Parish Administration Manual and statutes of the Archdiocese. These policies would include rotation of collection and accounting personnel, bill paying schedules, payroll, and banking schedules. Consistent with Parish Reporting requirements, prepare budget, annual report, interim reports, general ledgers and other monthly reports for the Pastor and Finance Council. Monitor the operating budget of the Parish and report regularly to the Pastor and the Finance Council as to potential problem areas. Handle bank relations to include management of accounts and problem solving. Prepare checks for the Pastor’s signature, attaching appropriate documentation. Manage bookkeeping functions, including but not limited to payables and receivables and all other parish-related expenses. Assist the Pastor in the administration of offertory enhancement programs, fund raising for special parish projects, Planned Giving, Stewardship and the Annual Catholic Appeal. Act as a liaison between the Pastor and Boston Catholic Development Services in maintaining the Archdiocesan parishioner database. Oversee the management of parish operational and financial records. Ensure that all federal, state, and local taxes are paid in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Confirm that all federal and state employee tax forms are done by Payroll. Administer payment of all salaries and benefits. HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Implement Archdiocesan human resource policies, including benefits, for administrative and support staff, including volunteers. Work in consultation with the Archdiocesan Human Resources Office as needed. Work with Pastor to create and implement annual performance reviews. Ensure that the annual performance reviews of all other staff are performed. Ensure that all staff sick-time and vacation times are documented. CEMETERY MANAGEMENT Prepare all cemetery invoices Send out all monthly statements GENERAL Attend meetings relative to the role, as necessary. Direct purchasing procedures within the dollar limits set by the Pastor. Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors’ degree in business/accounting preferred with at least 10 years demonstrated related experience. Supervisory/management experience required. Understanding and support of the mission of the Church. Demonstrated experience in accounting. Knowledgeable about safety and security issues. Knowledgeable of human resource issues, including policies, procedures, selection, benefits, federal and state laws. Knowledgeable of parish policies and guidelines in relationship to Archdiocesan policies and guidelines. Demonstrated experience in appropriate computer technology and skills. Demonstrated supervisory and management experience. Strong oral and written communication skills Must be proficient with Microsoft office suite software. Knowledge of financial systems, preferably Quickbooks and Intaact programs PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE ELEMENTS: Ability to use a computer keyboard for up to 8 hours/day. Ability to sit for up to 8 hours/day. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
