Duties Summary Exempt, non-civil service appointment. Minimum Qualification Requirements EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Master's Degree in Epidemiology or health-related field for which the candidate completed and passed at least three (3) epidemiological methods courses, one of which must be an advanced level, and at least two (2) biostatistics courses requiring mastery of large datasets and analyses using a statistical software application. Each qualifying course should have fulfilled a minimum of 2 credits. KNOWLEDGE: Principles, practices, and techniques of epidemiology analysis; principles and practices of public health and public administration, including the general organization, functions, services, and objectives of public health programs; public health and medical research methods and techniques, including analysis of risk factors; statistical analysis methodology; human and environmental biology and behavioral sciences and principles; community and medical resources; and principles of disease causation. Expertise in network operating systems (e.g., Windows, MAC, IOS, Android, LINUX, UNIX) and data management systems (e.g., SQL, PHP, Oracle), including a firm understanding of data applications, maintenance, and storage systems; web design; and related hardware/software. Working knowledge of information technology industry standards (i.e., TCP/IP, Cloud Computing, loT, Artificial Intelligence). The State of Connecticut, Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) is recruiting for a Laboratory Assistant 3 located in the Forensic Laboratory Forensic Biology/DNA Section within the Division of Scientific Services in Meriden, CT. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position, Monday-Friday schedule. This position is grant funded with an end date of September 30, 2022. About Us The Division of Scientific Services (DSS) provides forensic support to local, state and federal agencies throughout Connecticut. This division is divided into three analytical Sections. They are the Chemical Analysis Section (including toxicology, controlled substances, and arson), the Forensic Biology/DNA Section, and the Identification Section (including computer crimes). The laboratory also has two non-analytical Sections. They are the Quality Section and Laboratory Support Services (including Administration, Evidence Receiving, and Case Management). The Laboratory Assistant 3 will be performing bench work; Quality Control checking reagents, evidence handling, exam and any documentation necessary for casework examination procedures.
