Candidates should have reliable transportation, a flexible schedule and have availability to work both during the week and on weekends. Position Details This position is responsible for performing all aspects of lifeguarding to maintain the safety of patrons. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned: Monitors the swimming pool and surrounding facility to ensure safety of all facility users. Age Requirement: Must be age 15 or older. Education and/or Experience: None. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have completed American Red Cross CPR-PR, Lifeguard and First Aid training. (See below for more information). Physical Demands: Must have the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. An employee will frequently be required to walk, swim, bend, squat, kneel, climb stairs, use hand and finger dexterity, use eye to hand coordination, reach below shoulders, lift over 50 lbs and lift from arm level. An employee will occasionally be required to balance, run, push, pull, and crawl. Work Environment: This position may work indoors or outside depending on assigned location. Will constantly be exposed to wet surroundings and loud noise. Will frequently be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, pool and cleaning chemicals. Rapid City Aquatics is offering a Blended Learning Lifeguard course for the American Red Cross Lifeguard/Water Park/CPR for the Pro/AED/First Aid certifications. This format requires students to complete the online coursework before attending class in person. Candidates that are registered for the course will have access to practice swimming at the Swim Center (recommended). Lifeguard candidates must be 15 years old by the last day of the class. Registration will close for all classes on May 4th. The certification fee is $185 but $100 will reimbursed to employees who work the whole season! Pre-Course Swim Requirements 300 yard continuous swim of front crawl and/or breaststroke. Swimming on back or side is not permitted. Goggles are allowed. Tread water, legs only and without support or stopping, for two minutes. Candidate should have hands under armpits and head must remain above surface of the water. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, use surface dive to retrieve 10 pound brick from 7-10 feet deep water, swim 20 yards back to starting point, and exit water without use of ladder or steps. During swim with the brick, face must be out of the water and both hands must be on brick. Candidate has 1 minute 40 seconds to complete this skill; goggles are not allowed

Temporary|6 hours ago| Full Job Description The seasonal employment period is April – November. This wage position is restricted to 1,500 hours per year and offers no state benefits. Employment is anticipated to be a maximum of 500 hours. This position is expected to work a 32-40 hour work week with no overtime. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking one seasonal staff member to serve as a trapper for the Gypsy Moth in far southwest Virginia for the 2021 trapping season. Duties include conducting gypsy moth trap placement and monitoring in public and private lands in the far southwest Virginia counties of Lee, Scott, & Wise. Trapping activities require initial trap placement, final trap inspection, and trap removal from sites. These gypsy moth traps are critically important to detect isolated populations of the gypsy moth that may be outside of the national Gypsy Moth Slow the Spread Action Area. The selected individual’s base point will be their home and the trapper must reside in close proximity to the work area. Additionally, the trapper will report to the Office of Plant Industry Services’ supervisory personnel in Wytheville as needed for training, to complete administrative duties, and to collect supplies. Minimum Qualifications Proven ability to follow instructions, work independently, make decisions, organize work, and interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors, clients and the general public. Good oral and written communication skills are necessary as well as computer proficiency to include iPads and similar devices, is required. Familiarity with a GPS unit and map reading is desired along with experience driving in rural areas. This position is physically demanding and involves considerable walking, standing, kneeling, reaching, driving for long periods, and exposure to outside weather conditions, and natural elements. Must have (or be eligible for) and maintain a valid driver’s license and have a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety. Use of personal vehicle is required with established mileage reimbursement. HS Diploma/GED required. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of the gypsy moth, education/training in a related science, and experience conducting inspections preferred. Special Requirements Final candidate must complete and submit a Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) which will be entered into the Federal E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization. If the selected individual is a military veteran, they must also submit a copy of their DD214 form.
