Our Austin office offers a unique work environment in a great city, and we're looking to expand our Natural Resources team to meet project demands. Your role will be to assist our Project Managers with the execution of ecological field studies in central Texas and beyond. You should be able to work independently for 40 or more hours per week, on a sometimes unpredictable and fluid schedule. This position is field-based and on-call, and applicant should be located in or be based out of the Austin area. What you will accomplish: Conduct environmental inspections, wildlife and vegetation baseline studies, and biological evaluations and assessments. Collect field data, including identification of fauna and flora. Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools to determine exact locations of project areas, habitat types, and associated landforms. Photograph and record appropriate habitat, species, and landforms. Operate SWCA vehicles, assure they will perform safely, and notify appropriate person if vehicle needs maintenance. Ability to drive a 4-wheel-drive vehicle on rugged, back-country roads. Investigates and recommends potential alternative approaches to improve the quality of results of basic and/or translational research. Expertise in immunology, advanced flow cytometry, cell sorting, and cell culture/differentiation are highly desired although not required. Manage teams and lead scientific projects by applying advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development, as well as facilitating in some training aspects of other team members.
